To maintain a healthy relationship, you need to talk it out, compromise and be realistic, and take care of yourself. Getting into a relationship when your online dating is the easy and fun part, but maintaining a healthy happy relationship takes more work.

Talk It Out

Communication is the number one thing you and your partner need to do to maintain a healthy relationship. Talking about things that you love about each other and talking about things you need to work on will make your relationship stronger.

It can be hard to communicate, but when your video dating and you start your relationship off with that expectation of open communication it will be easier. When you and your partner are comfortable enough with each other to know that you can go to the other about anything and talk about it, then your relationship will last.

What About When We Fight?

Fighting happens in relationships. It can be harder to fight when your video dating because you actually have to sit and talk it through – no hanging up on each other!

If you are in a fight, know that it’s okay to take a break. Come back when you’ve cooled off and you’re a bit more level-headed to talk it through.

When you’re in a fight, try not to place the blame on the other person. Remember to say things like “When you do X, it makes me feel like X” instead of “You do X so you don’t care”.

Be aware of your words and don’t put the other person down, and remind your partner to do the same as well.

Compromise And Be Realistic

Relationships are full of compromises. You want to make your partner happy, and your partner should also want to make you happy.

This means sometimes on Fridays you’ll go to their favorite restaurant, even though you’re not a big fan of it. It also means sometimes when during your video dating sessions, you’ll get to pick the scary movie if your partner got to pick the RomCom last time.

Take Care Of Yourself

It is not selfish of you to take care of yourself first in your relationship. You can’t love someone to your fullest if you are feeling down about yourself.

Do things that make you feel good, like taking baths, journaling, and going for walks. Whatever it is that makes you feel better, tell your partner you need some alone time for yourself and do those things.
